I can get a good three solid days of colour before it starts fading pretty rapidly, or worse, leaving me speckled tan mess. Unfortunately, I have found the Tanologist tan does tend to do this. I don’t want take all the time and effort to apply it to find it washing down the drain a couple days later. Longevity is a key factor for me when it comes to fake tan. Again, it’s a draw on the smell, the two are so similar that there really isn’t a clear winner.

When the tan has developed there is a slight biscuity smell with both tans, however I am yet to find a tan that does not come with a lingering biscuity smell and this one is really subtle and has never made my sheets smell either. The pre development smell of both is just a classic artificial moisturiser smell, although not my first choice of smell, its not unpleasant and compared to 90% of the tans of the market. Thankfully there isn’t a strong smell to either tan. However, due to the depth of colour, I would have to make the Tanologist tan the winner of the finish for the best finish. They never come out orange or overly fake looking despite being a dark tan, always providing a natural looking tan. That said, the overall finish of both tans is still really impressive. To achieve a similar shade I have to use significantly more of the isle of paradise tan. I expected to achieve similar shades with similar quantity of product used, however, Tanologist tan always comes out considerably darker than the Isle of paradise tan. I have found that the depth of colour is really obvious despite both tans being in the shade dark. This is the first distinguishable difference between the two. Initially I did worry that I would be very patchy without having a guide colour when applying my tan, but this hasn’t been a problem provide that as you’re fully soaked yourself in tanned and give it a blend in.

I’ve found tanning waters much quicker to apply than the good old fashioned mousse which has been an added bonus of making the swap. Since the application is exactly the same for the two tans, there isn’t a winner for application, but they are both quick and easy to apply. Quite frankly, I like the darker the better so i’ve never attempted washing off before at least 8 hours of development time. While the Isle of Paradise tan claims to be fully developed in 4-6 hour, the Tanologist tan claims to be ready after 1-4 hours, depending on the desired level of colour. I then leave the tan to soak in before going to bed and washing it off in the morning.

Although both are pretty similar, I have some some notable difference between the two.īoth tans are applied in the same way, a good full body spritz, starting from the bottom up, rubbing in with a mitt as I go and this seems to guarantee a pretty even tan. I have two favourites that I like to swap between, the dark tanning waters from Tanologist and Isle of Paradise. Neither option was really that great but as a girl who loves her tan, I had no other options, until the tanning waters came along.

Or two, wake up at the crack of dawn to fake tan before starting my day, but develop into a patchy mess before the day is out. One, go to bed in my tan and inevitably wake up with biscuity smelling, orange stained sheets. Tanning waters have undoubtedly been a game changer in my tanning routine.
